This work by Daniel Canogar belongs to his series Echo, the outcome of the artist’s reflections on the major changes in our way of relating with screens in the twenty-first century.

Looking at the increasing numbers of screens in our everyday lives and in our relationships with others, Canogar formulated the concept of the twenty-first century screen as a “skin-screen.” Indeed, as if they were actual skins, these screens cover whole buildings, act as vehicles for communication and knowledge, and are with us wherever we go.

To create this type of curved surfaces, the artist uses flexible LED screens which he treats sculpturally. Each one of the pieces in this series shows colour abstractions generated by algorithms that react to information downloaded from Internet in real time. Gust II shows the changing wind in the city of Madrid, alluding to the Ciudad BBVA building and its surroundings.

As the artist himself says, “the outcome is a sculptural screen that listens to the planet through its Internet connection.”
