After first studying in Italy, at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome, he moved to Spain where he completed his training at José de Madrazo’s studio.

He settled as an independent artist in Madrid, where he earned a reputation for his paintings of buildings and interiors.

In 1841 he won the post of professor of painting at Instituto Español. He also competed at the National Fine Arts Expositions of 1856, 1858 and 1860.
