Lootz studied Humanities at the University of Vienna and obtained a degree in Filmmaking from the School of Cinema and Television of Vienna. Living in Madrid since 1965, she has been involved in some of the most critical art events in Spain in recent decades, contributing one of the most sensitive and innovative languages in Spanish sculpture.

At an early stage Lootz cultivated what has been known as . However, she soon made the leap to three dimensions, encouraged by her fondness for experimentation with materials. Exploring the expressive and symbolic potential of certain natural materials—such as sand, mercury, wood and coal—she creates formally simple albeit highly suggestive sculptures and installations, in which memory is a recurrent concern. Her first solo exhibition was held in 1975, at Galería Buades.

In 1992 the artist started to work as a teacher at the School of Fine Arts in Cuenca. Her career has been distinguished on several occasions: in 1994 with the National Visual Arts Prize and in 2013 with the Art and Patronage Prize.
