Orensanz studied at the Lonja School (1954) and the San Jorge School of Fine Arts (1959) in Barcelona. In 1961 he presented his works on Atlántida at the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, coinciding with the world premiere of the opera with the same name with music by Manuel de Falla (1876-1946) and Ernesto Halffter (1905-1989).

He moved to Paris in 1965 and worked at L’Ecole de Beaux Arts with Etienne Martin and Cesar. He took part in the Salon de Mai and the Paris Biennial (1966) and in 1967 he won first prize and the gold medal for sculpture at the 4th Zaragoza Art Biennial for his work Dinosaurio. He travelled extensively to Italy, the south of France, Switzerland and Belgium, where he lived for a few months (1968). His experimentation with glass and metal at his studio in Courbevois (Paris) proved critical for his creative output, using enamels together with iron in some of his works.
