Segrelles was a celebrated painter and illustrator whose works were featured in major publications of his time.

He trained at the Artisans Free School and the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts in Valencia, the city where he settled together with his brother and where he worked under masters such as Joaquín Sorolla (1863—1923) and Isidoro Garnelo (1867—1939).

The sudden death of his brother forced him to move to Barcelona, where he graduated in Fine Arts. An exhibition of his work there in 1918 aroused great interest and admiration among leading authors of the time. From that moment onwards he began to obtain commissions to illustrate literary works, including novels by Blasco Ibáñez (1867—1928).

In the 1920s he travelled to Paris to sign a contract with a London publishing house that led to great success. He also travelled to New York around 1930, where he obtained many well remunerated commissions.

In 1929 he won the Gold Medal at the Barcelona International Exposition and he was also granted a posthumous Gold Medal for Merit at Work.
