20th Century Spanish

After graduating in Architecture in Madrid, he furthered his studies in the United States and Mexico thanks to a scholarship.

His background in architecture was to leave its mark on Vaquero’s mid-career style, defined by sketchy and architecturally organised landscapes in volumetric forms, which he consolidated during his time in Italy in the 1950s as deputy director of the Spanish Academy in Rome. In the following years, this style would become even more austere.

Vaquero exhibited his work in prestigious venues in Europe and America.

In 1992 he won a Gold Medal at the 1st Feria Artística in Santander, and the Prince of Asturias Award in recognition of his life’s work.
