Temporary deposit of six artworks from the BBVA Collection to the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia
More information
Venue
: Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia
Dates
: on loan until 2028
The BBVA Collection is lending, as a temporary deposit, six paintings to the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia with the purpose of making BBVA’s holdings available for the enjoyment of the wider public, while at once enriching the museum’s collection and reinforcing its distinctive features.
The group of works opens with
The Virgin and Child Jesus with Angel
,
an exquisite renaissance painting by Juan de Soreda from around 1530, and continues with some true gems of Mediterranean baroque such as the refined
Holy Family
by the artist Josefa de Óbidos—one of the maximum exponents of Portuguese baroque naturalism—and a spectacular
oil on canvas
painting with the same subject matter by the French master Valentin de Boulogne.
The selection also includes notable examples of fin-de-siècle
art in
Village Pharmacist
by Ignacio Zuloaga and
Soir de fête (Evening Party)
by Francisco Iturrino, who both played a key role in shaping modernity in Spain, as well as a first-rate avant-garde painting,
Le gosse (The Boy)
by Josep de Togores.
Currently on view together on the first floor of the museum, from 2026 onwards the six works will be integrated into various rooms of the museum’s permanent collection, adding greater depth and surplus value to its historiographic discourse.
