Since he first started out, Pablo Armesto has been particularly fascinated with the use of light, installations and the public space to create works whose striking use of resources not generally seen in artworks, such as LED lighting, cause a deep impression.

This interest in light, a driving force behind his whole practice, has always been based on a philosophical or aesthetic concept, which, as the artist himself claims, “is more than light.”

This diptych, from the series Líneas de luz, is a harmonic and well-balanced composition in terms of form and colour, almost conveying the sensation of musical melody. The combination of the palette of grey tones is set off by the empty spaces and the line of light with varying temperatures of colour, lending the work an internal rhythm that transmits a sense of peace and calm. The texture, built up by applying and stripping away layers of stucco, gives the work an overall soft, silky appearance.

Here Armesto creates a poetic symbiosis between painting and light. The pieces are modified during a double aesthetic experience. In daylight the painting dominates, but when night falls it is enriched with touches of colour from the fibre optic integrated into the piece.

And it is this beautiful duplicity that traps our gaze.
