One can readily note a significant influence from Rembrandt (1606-1669) creeping into Lesire’s practice around 1630. It is particularly visible in this piece in his use of chiaroscuro, the detail in rendering the textures of the fabrics and the brown-greyish palette.

Depicted in bust form and dressed in fine black silk and a large , the sitter looks the beholder in the eye. The way the artist has framed the gentleman within a tondo reinforces the power of the image.
