This work from the early period of this Catalan painter was created the year after his first exhibition at Ateneo de Barcelona, a time when he moved to Paris to further his studies with a Cercle Mallol scholarship from the Institut français in Barcelona.

The core theme of this early work is the depiction of agricultural machinery. Around this time, Caraltó explored a wide variety of subject matters, ranging from landscape to mundane objects. Afterwards, the artist focused more on the female nude, a recurrent theme in his later works.

In Maquinaria agrícola Caraltó depicts several farming utensils, eluding the rules of perspective and isolating the various elements to form a carefully devised composition dominated by linearity. His palette, in a range of ochre and earthy tones, is soft and harmonious.

Taken as a whole, the work in hand is full of elegance and personality.
